DIY Fresh & Affordable Salad Jars
Yield: 6 servings
Ingredients:
- 1 Romaine lettuce 3-pack
- 6 eggs
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup bacon bits
- 1/2 cup diced ham or turkey lunch meat
- 1 cucumber, sliced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- Ranch dressing (or dressing of your choice)
- Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Eggs:
- Boil the eggs until hard-boiled. Once cooked, let them cool, then peel and slice them into halves or quarters.
- Chop the Ingredients:
- Wash and chop the Romaine lettuce into bite-sized pieces.
- Dice the tomatoes and slice the cucumbers.
- If not using pre-shredded cheese, shred the cheddar cheese.
- Assemble the Salad Jars:
- Start by layering the ingredients in your preferred order into clean, airtight containers. A typical order might be:
- Bottom layer: Ranch dressing (enough to coat the bottom of the container).
- Next layer: Romaine lettuce.
- Then add layers of diced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, shredded cheddar cheese, bacon bits, diced ham or turkey, and hard-boiled eggs.
- Repeat the layers until the container is filled, ensuring to leave some space at the top.
- Optional Parmesan Topping:
- If desired, sprinkle some Parmesan cheese on top of the salad before sealing the container.
- Seal and Store:
- Securely seal each container with its lid to keep the salads fresh.
- Store the salad jars in the refrigerator, and they will stay fresh for up to a week.
- Serve:
- When ready to eat, simply shake or toss the salad jar to distribute the dressing evenly. Alternatively, you can pour the salad into a bowl before serving.
These DIY salad jars are not only budget-friendly but also customizable to your taste preferences. Enjoy the convenience of having healthy and delicious salads ready to go throughout the week!
