DIY Fresh & Affordable Salad Jars

Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 Romaine lettuce 3-pack
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup bacon bits
  • 1/2 cup diced ham or turkey lunch meat
  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • Ranch dressing (or dressing of your choice)
  • Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Eggs:
    • Boil the eggs until hard-boiled. Once cooked, let them cool, then peel and slice them into halves or quarters.
  2. Chop the Ingredients:
    • Wash and chop the Romaine lettuce into bite-sized pieces.
    • Dice the tomatoes and slice the cucumbers.
    • If not using pre-shredded cheese, shred the cheddar cheese.
  3. Assemble the Salad Jars:
    • Start by layering the ingredients in your preferred order into clean, airtight containers. A typical order might be:
      • Bottom layer: Ranch dressing (enough to coat the bottom of the container).
      • Next layer: Romaine lettuce.
      • Then add layers of diced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, shredded cheddar cheese, bacon bits, diced ham or turkey, and hard-boiled eggs.
      • Repeat the layers until the container is filled, ensuring to leave some space at the top.
  4. Optional Parmesan Topping:
    • If desired, sprinkle some Parmesan cheese on top of the salad before sealing the container.
  5. Seal and Store:
    • Securely seal each container with its lid to keep the salads fresh.
    • Store the salad jars in the refrigerator, and they will stay fresh for up to a week.
  6. Serve:
    • When ready to eat, simply shake or toss the salad jar to distribute the dressing evenly. Alternatively, you can pour the salad into a bowl before serving.

These DIY salad jars are not only budget-friendly but also customizable to your taste preferences. Enjoy the convenience of having healthy and delicious salads ready to go throughout the week!
