Homemade Pop-Tarts

Ingredients:

  • 2 boxes of premade pie crust
  • Strawberry jelly (or your favorite flavor)
  • 1 egg
  • Frosting (store-bought or homemade)
  • Sprinkles

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the Pie Crusts: Roll out each pie crust and cut out rectangles the size of a pop tart. You should have a total of 16 pieces. Lay 8 of them on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. Add the Filling: Spoon 1 teaspoon of strawberry jelly onto the center of each of the 8 pieces on the baking sheet. Gently spread the jelly, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Seal the Pop-Tarts: Place the remaining 8 pieces of pie crust over the jelly-covered ones. Use a fork to press down and seal the edges of each pop tart, ensuring no filling leaks out during baking.
  5. Ventilation: Use a toothpick to poke a few small holes in the top crust of each pop tart. This helps the steam escape during baking.
  6. Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg. Brush the top of each pop tart with the egg wash. This will give the pop tarts a golden brown color when baked.
  7. Bake: Bake the pop tarts in the preheated oven for 7-8 minutes or until they are lightly golden brown. Keep an eye on them as baking times can vary depending on your oven.
  8. Cooling: Once baked, transfer the pop tarts to a wire cooling rack and let them cool completely.
  9. Frost and Decorate: Once the pop tarts are completely cooled, spread frosting over the top of each pop tart and add sprinkles for a fun and colorful touch.
  10. Serve and Store: Enjoy your homemade pop tarts immediately, or store them in the refrigerator. They can be warmed up in a toaster or microwave before serving.
