Have you ever tried making cornbread with honey and applesauce? It’s the only way I make it!
I prefer a sweeter cornbread and this goes wonderfully with any meal. The applesauce keeps the cornbread from being dry as well. I personally eyeball the amounts but I will give a ballpark amount.
Jiffy cornbread mix
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1/4 cup applesauce
2-3 tablespoons of honey

Honey and Applesauce Cornbread Recipe

  • 1 box of Jiffy cornbread mix
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2-3 tablespoons honey (adjust to your sweetness preference)

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the Jiffy cornbread mix box.
  2. Prepare the Pan:
    • Grease a baking pan or use a silicone baking mold for easy removal.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the Jiffy cornbread mix.
  4. Add Wet Ingredients:
    • Crack in the egg, pour in the milk, and add the applesauce.
  5. Sweeten it Up:
    • Drizzle in the honey. Start with 2 tablespoons and adjust according to your sweetness preference. Stir the mixture until well combined.
  6. Mix Thoroughly:
    • Mix the ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
  7. Pour into the Pan:
    • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
  8. Bake:
    • Bake in the preheated oven according to the time and temperature specified on the Jiffy cornbread mix box or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool:
    • Allow the cornbread to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Slice and Serve:
  • Once cooled, slice the cornbread into squares or wedges. Serve it as a delightful side with meals, soups, or on its own.
  1. Optional: Drizzle with Honey:
  • For an extra touch of sweetness, you can drizzle a bit more honey on top before serving.
