Homemade Salisbury Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Green Beans
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Gravy:
- 1 can beef gravy
- 1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
For the Sides:
- Mashed potatoes
- Green beans, steamed or sautéed
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, chopped onions, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Shape the mixture into oval-shaped patties.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
- Place the beef patties in the skillet and cook until browned on both sides and cooked through. This should take about 4-5 minutes per side. Once cooked, remove the patties from the pan and set aside.
- In the same skillet, without removing the grease, add the can of beef gravy, Dijon Mustard, beef broth, and cornstarch (if desired for thickening). Stir well to combine.
- Bring the gravy mixture to a simmer. Once simmering, add the beef patties back into the pan.
- Baste the patties with the gravy until it thickens to your liking. Continue cooking for an additional 5-7 minutes.
- While the patties are simmering in the gravy, prepare mashed potatoes and steam or sauté green beans as desired.
- Serve the Salisbury steak patties over a bed of mashed potatoes, with green beans on the side. Spoon extra gravy over the top.
- Enjoy your homemade Salisbury steak with all the fixings! Your happy husband is sure to love this comforting and delicious meal.
